Abbey Lakes Home

Both teams started this game very brightly, but defences seemed to be on top, it was also an even battle in midfield. Their were limited amount of chances in the first twenty minutes, but with the ground cutting up very quickly it was inevitable that a mistake was going to cost the team a goal and it was Amberswood centrback Carl Stocks who made it as a ball was played into the box, Carl Stocks took a swing with his right leg, but with the ground cutting up, the ball instead of bouncing up, just slid along the ground straight to the striker who couldn't miss past a stranded goalkeeper Danny Hilton.

Within minutes Amberswood thought they had equalised after Adam Corfield hit a volley as clean as a whistle, but the Abbey Lakes keeper tipped the shot onto the bar and out for a corner kick.

As the half wore on it seemed to be Abbey Lakes who looked more likely to score, as they had a few more opportunities, only to be thwarted by an exhillarating Danny Hilton and an excellent defensive performance from Darren Ainscough.

At half time, Amberswood made a couple of substitutions bringing on top scorer Antony Whitton and influential midfielder Sammer Ahmed.

Amberswood were a little less generous in gifting opportunities to Abbey Lakes, but were still struggling in front of goal and midway through the second half, Abbey Lakes scored a second as Amberswood were trying to get an equaliser and pushing forward, they were caught on the break and with the Abbey Lakes striker through on goal, he fired the ball past a helpless Danny Hilton.

With Amberswood two goals down, manager Phil Atherton used his last throw of the dice by bringing on former captain and new signing John Warburton. Amberswood had a couple of opportunities towards the end, but the final shots were feeble and failed to trouble the Abbey Lakes goalkeeper.

Final Score: Amberswood 0 Abbey Lakes 2 A game that struggled to ignite due to the pitch conditions, a fair result overall as Abbey Lakes were the better side.

Man Of The Match: Darren Ainscough who with the defence looking comfortable the majority of time, not for the fist time this season looked like Amberswoods best attacking player as well as their defensive one.
