This early morning kickoff was just the tonic Amberswood wanted as they tried a new system and wanted to cut down the amount of goals being conceded but get something from the game. It was a job well done as they limited Billinge Eagles to a minor amount of chances throughout the whole game and the chances Billinge Eagles had were from distance. Amberswood conceded large amounts of possession to Billinge but were always more threatening and when Payam Doustani was fouled just inside the Billinge Eagles half, Dean Ainscough hit a thunderbolt of a free kick straight into the top corner of the net. Billinge Eagles found space on the wing and thats were they attempted to attack, but with Steven Bannister and Carl stocks in such scintillating form, Amberswood made dispossessing them relatively easy, but as Ben Stocks made one single mistake, which was misjudging a long ball and handled the ball to give Billinge Eagles a free kick on the edge of the box. From the free kick Billinge Eagles scored when Amberswood goalkeeper was still setting up his wall, Billinge Eagles took a quick free kick that ended up in the back of the net.
With Amberswood struggling for width, chances were few and far between and when Payam Doustani Amberswoods main supplier of chances picked up an injury, Amberswood had to work a little harder to create chances.
At half time Amberswood made a substitution, taking off the injured Payam Doustani off for Antony Whitton, Amberswood started to hit Billinge Eagles on the break using John Warburtons pace and running ability to great effect and as the ball came to Craig Gilligan, he threaded the ball through to strike partner John Warburton who had three attempts to strike the ball goalwards before connecting with the ball at the fourth attempt and scoring the winning goal in this thrilling encounter.
While Billinge pushed for an equaliser and with Darren Ainscough and Ben Stocks cutting everything out at the back with the help of Dean Ainscough, Shane Clark and Sammer Ahmed, Amberswood created two or three clear cut opportunities and could have wrapped the game up, but it did'nt matter in the end and Amberswood collected all three points. William Hoey was more like a sweeper behind the back four than a goalkeeper.
Final Score Billinge Eagles 1 Amberswood 2
Man Of The Match Darren Ainscough who never missed a thing at the back and also looked comfortable bringing the ball out of defence.
