  Farnworth Social Circle Home

This game started off very cagey with both teams more concerned with not conceding more than scoring.

In the first half both teams created chances with Amberswood goalkeeper Danny Hilton pulling off a fantastic save and top striker Antony Whitton missing a guilt edged chance, but Amberswood were playing the better football throughout the team and Farnworth more concerned with getting the ball clear and playing most of their football in the last third of the pitch.

At half time it was still a stalemate and the way both teams were cancelling each other out, looked like a definite scoreless draw, but with the energetic Antony Whitton up front you never know and it was his contribution of pressurising the goalkeeper that lead to the first goal, as Farnworth played a backpass to their goalkeeper, Antony Whitton raced from the left side channel to the right side channel to close the goalkeeper down who hit his clearance straight to Antony Whittons strike partner Paul Stringer about twenty five yards out who controlled the ball, the Farnworth goalkeeper raced back to his goal and Amberswood striker Paul Stringer steadied himself and took aim, and then fired a thunderbolt of a shot at the Farnworth goal, which the Farnworth goalkeeper didn't see as he didn't even move.

From the restart Amberswood scored again and it was Paul Stringer who scored the second with all his own work as he dispossessed a Farnworth striker and stepped up a gear as he weaved in and out of the Farnworth team before placing a shot between the Farnworth keeper and his near post, this time the keeper did make an attempt to save it, but the result was the same and Amberswood went two nil up.

Minutes later Amberswood scored another and that was game, set and match, this time it came from a throw in on the right hand side that John Warburton took to Antony Whitton who looped a ball over to the far post, where the Farnworth goalkeeper hesitated and Amberswood winger Adam Corfield jumped up and headed the ball over the top of the hesitant goalkeeper for Amberswoods third.

With about twenty minutes to go, Amberswood made a substitution, replacing two goal hero Paul Stringer with Carl Stocks and with ten minutes to go Amberswood replaced top scorer Antony Whitton with the impressive Chris Harris who could have easily scored a fourth, but he's a little rusty.

There was still time for Farnworth to have two real efforts to cause concern, but the Amberswood goalkeeper Danny Hilton was to prove that on a day that Amberswood were prolific on the attack that they were also as solid at the back by making sure they kept a clean sheet with two world class saves.

Final Score: Amberswood 3 Farnworth Social Circle 0 A game that the first goal was going to be really important, Amberswood were as selfish at the back as they were prolific up front with a midfield that worked like a machine.

Man Of The Match: Darren Ainscough who was really comfortable defending and also joined in attacks.
