Haydock Thistle Home

Both teams started the game very brightly and in the first twenty minutes this game could have gone either way, but it was Haydock Thistle who grabbed the lead and the upper hand as they floated a free kick towards the left hand post and the striker rose highest to head the ball towards the far post to his unmarked strike partner to finish from one yard out into an empty net. Darren Ainscough made a valiant attempt to prevent the striker from converting.

After thirty minutes, this game was surely over as Haydock Thistle grabbed a second and the confidence was knocked out of Amberswood who started to knock the ball long to a one man strike force Antony Whitton.

Amberswood seemed to go from bad to worse as they conceded another one just before half time to make it three nil.

The second half started much in the same way as the first, but Amberswood made changes in formation attempting to get the goals back, but just opened the doors for more goals as Haydock Thistle added another two goals to go five nil up with twenty minutes to go.

This was Amberswoods time to start playing football by passing their way through Haydock Thistle as they had nothing to lose and thats how they got their consolation goal as Amberswoods Man of the match Darren Ainscough who had done this x amount of times throughout the game to try and set up attacks had threaded the ball through for substitute Dean Tomlinson to race onto and finish his chance past a stranded goalkeeper. Dean Tomlinson had another chance to get a goal back after good work by Darren Ainscough, but failed to make the keeper work to keep the emphatic scoreline.

Final Score: Amberswood 1 Haydock Thistle 5

Man Of The Match: Darren Ainscough who tried to play the ball to feet and set up attack after attack.
