Lancashire Athletic Away

The game kicked off and both teams struggled to get to grips with the weather conditions, but neither looked likely to concede a goal. But after about fifteen minutes Lancashire Athletic were the team that broke the deadlock after terrible defending from Amberswood, with miss- hitting the ball contributing to the goal.

After the goal Amberswood were all at sea in the central midfield area and only for right midfielder Adam Corfield covering their position did they keep out a second goal before their equaliser finally came. The equaliser came after a piece of magic and pure brilliance from in-form striker Paul Stringer as he picked up the ball in the central midfield area and drove at the defence, before letting fly from twenty five yards with a thunderbolt of a shot that you knew was in the moment it left his boot.

Amberswood always seemed to be on the back foot and Lancashire Athletic missed a couple more opportunities before the break, but as half time approached, Lancashire Athletic forced Amberswood to concede a corner kick, with which they floated into the box and with the weather conditions causing the goalkeepers problems when being crossed in, it was over the top of Amberswoods goalkeepers head and towards the far post, where Amberswood had Steven Bannister on the post, but with the presence of the Lancashire Athletic striker failed to deal with it and the striker bundled the ball and defender into the net, to give Lancashire Athletic a half time lead.

The second half started in much of the same way as the first had ended, and Amberswood captain John Warburton was getting frustrated, and when Lancashire Athletic were given a third goal, which he felt had'nt crossed the line, he protested too much with the referee and earned himself a yellow card.

The fourth came soon afterwards and their was an element of suspicion of offside, but the referee allowed play to go on and the Lancashire Athletic was clean through on goal and converted the chance.

At four goals to one, that was Amberswood gone with the wind, and no way back and manager Phil Atherton was forced to make one change and made a couple of others. he took off captain John Warburton before he was sent off, as he was testing the referees patience and made a change in formation.

Amberswood grabbed a goal back in seconds as the formation was changed to three four three and the person who was pushed up front as an extra striker was the goalscorer after the ball was played to Antony Whitton who flicked the ball over the defenders head to an inmarked Steven Bannisterwho also chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper and into an empty net.

Final Score: Lancashire Athletic 4 Amberswood 2 Lancashire Athletic deserved their victory after going four one up, but if Amberswoods top striker Antony Whitton had converted his two clear cut chances, it could so easily have been a draw.

Man Of The Match: Paul Stringer who scored a magical goal and was involved in everything offensively Amberswood did.
