As the first half kicked off, Amberswood started shabbily and created numerous mistakes, which they finally got punished for as Madison Athletic crossed the ball into the box, Amberswoods defence were at sixes and sevens attempting to clear the ball, but the ball fell to a Madison Athletic player who coolly finished to make it one nil.

Amberswood started to assert themselves and won a throw in, in the final third and capitalised straight away as they took a throw in, into the penalty area, the ball bobbled around before Shane clark got the ball with his back to goal and turned before being bundled to the floor for a penalty and Dean Ainscough converted the penalty, firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Within minutes Madison Athletic fired themselves into the lead again, when the left winger received the ball under control and went in field through midfield before unleashing a twenty yard shot along the floor and into the bottom corner of the net.

At half time with Amberswood trailing two goals to one, Phil Atherton gave his team a motivational teamtalk as Amberswood started the second half brightly, and were soon on equal terms as Amberswood started to pass the ball to feet and spread it wide, the ball found itself at Antony Whittons feet who squared the ball for Amberswood striker John Warburton to fire the ball from the edge of the box past a helpless keeper.

Amberswood started looking very comfortable in defence and in possession started find the wingers in space with the ball and looked in control of the game made an attacking substitutionby taking off defensive midfielder Shane Clark and striker Dean Tomlinson and replacing them with the attacking duo Paul Stringer and Chris Gregson. Amberswood started to have large amounts of possession and within minutes took the lead as the ball was played to left winger Dean Ainscough, midway into the oppositions half. He attacked the fullback one on one and ghosted past him with ease before attracting the attention of the centreback and squared the ball to John Warburton to fire into an empty net from six yards out.

On about the seventyth minute, Amberswood lost possession in the final third on the left hand side and Dean Ainscough had a serious rush of blood and produced a terrible challenge, leaving the ref with no alternative but to show the red card.

Amberswood with ten men, for the last twenty minutes held out for the victory, playing with one striker, the hard working John Warburton and the Impressive defence.
