As the game kicked off, Amberswood started off very brightly pressurising the opposition and winning a series of corners and throw-ins deep in the oppositions half through willing runners John Warburton and Antony Whitton with Craig Gilligan producing the passes to force the opposition to put the ball out of play, and thats how Amberswoods first goal came about. A long throw from near the right corner flag by Craig Gilligan, somehow found its way to the back post to John Warburtons feet who found himself with the simple task of putting the ball into the net from four yards out.
Within minutes Orrell Stag found themselves on level terms, after a goalmouth scramble in the Amberswood box found itself towards the Orrell Stag striker who placed the ball past the Amberswood keeper and into the net.
Amberswood piled more pressure on and created more chances in the first half and should have been ahead at half time.
The second half started with Amberswood putting the pressure on and creating chances in the first ten minutes and Amberswood should really have gone ahead after Craig Gilligan put Antony Whitton clean through with acres of grass between himself and the Orrell Stag goalkeeper, but he failed to take full advantage and forced the keeper into making a good save, but Orrell Stag should also have gone ahead after the striker rounded the keeper and found himself to the left of an unguarded goal, but placed the ball wide.
Dean Ainscough was the orchestrator of Amberswoods second goal amd the driving force in Amberswoods midfield going forward as he put the in behind the Orrell Stag defence for John Warburton to race onto and place the ball under the Orrell Stag keeper.
Amberswood made a change replacing Antony Whitton with Dean Scouler going for p[ace upfront, and Orrell Stag equalised for a second time after the Amberswoods defence had three bites of the cherry to clear the ball without success before Orrell Stag put the ball into the net for the equaliser.
Amberswood were forced into two substitutions replacing the powerhouse midfielder Shane Clark with new recruit Craig Clough and the very strong and intelligent centreback Barry Jones for Danny Taylor who had just recovered from injury and seriously lacked match practise.
Orrell Stag started to take control of the game with the skillful centre midfielder pulling the strings, Amberswoods Craig Gilligan, John Warburton and Dean Scouler being starved of the ball and looking jaded. Orrell Stag Scored two goals late on to take full advantage of Amberswoods substitutions and take all three points.
