As the first half kicked of both teams were determined to get something from the game, as Royal Scot had previously beaten Amberswood a couple of weeks earlier by an eight goal margin without reply and Amberswood were convinced that this time it was going to be different and you could tell this, as both sides were really throwing challenges in with aggression.Royal Scot seemed to have a lot more of the possession, but it was Amberswood who looked more deadly and in control as they restricted Royal Scot to long shots.
It was Amberswood who scored the first goal from Dean Tomlinson after Rik Surples crossed over a free kick to the far post with three Amberswood players unmarked in the form of John Warburton, William Hoey
and Dean Tomlinson, but it was Dean Tomlinson who placed his header past a stranded Royal Scot goalkeeper.
Amberswood were organised, disciplined in their approach and had the game under total control, while conceding the majority of possession to the opposition for the rest of the first half.
The second half started much in the same way as the first with Amberswood in total control and Royal Scot having much of the possession without looking likely to score, but Amberswood had other ideas and with Dean Tomlinson in this kind of form it was looking like a certain win, as he received the ball about thirty yards out and hit a thunderbolt of a shot, which had the keeper well beaten but cannoned off the bar for the keeper to retain possession. Antony Whitton was also a constant threat putting the Royal Scot under immense pressure, chasing down lost causes and if he had controlled the ball a little better would be way out in front as Amberswoods top scorer.
Amberswoods downfall came after a controversial decision by the referee gifted Royal Scot an undeserved equaliser as a free kick was floated into the box and Amberswood goalkeeper Danny Hilton had commanded his box like a general and had made everything look easy went up to catch the ball, a Royal Scot attacker had interfered with the goalkeepers grasp forcing him to drop the ball and fall on top of a Royal Scot Player as he gathered the ball, but the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty kick. Royal Scot equalised form the penalty spot.
As the game was heading towards the last third of the game Amberswoods midfield and defence were getting pushed further and further back towards their own goal as they were getting tired. But it was Amberswood who should have wrapped this game up and taken all the points as they missed two similar golden opportunities from John Warburton and substitute Chris Gregson who both came in on the back post and the ball was crossed over the top of all the Royal Scot defenders and from about six yards out, both missed the ball and failed to volley it into the back of the net.
Final Score: Amberswood 1 Royal Scot 1 How Amberswood failed to take all three points only the ref will know.
Man Of The Match: John Warburton who captained and organised the team to play as a unit and was like an army general sending his troops to war.
