Before this game kicked off, there was a minutes silence for Lee Kearsley of Ince Rose Bridge who was killed earlier this week.
When the game kicked off , both teams were confident about getting a positive result and that reflected the way the game seemed to start as both defences were put under pressure from the start, but it was Shamrock Rovers who made an early breakthrough as the striker went down the left hand side going past two or three defenders before firing past a helpless goalkeeper Danny Hilton.
Amberswood should have equalised straight away as they were awarded a free kick on the left hand side, which Rick Surples floated the ball into the box and found an unmarked John Warburton, six yards out with the goalkeeper static on the front post, but John Warburton failed to make the right connection and the chance was gone. Amberswood again fired another warning to Shamrock Rovers when John Warburton controlled a ball with his head for Dean Tomlinson to fire a half volley on the turn, just over the cross bar. But Amberswood were soon on level terms when a misplaced pass by Shamrock Rovers fell to left back Chris Hions who passed the ball right to John Warburton who executed a perfect through ball that split the defence wide open and sent Antony Whitton clean through with only the keeper to beat and he fired the ball into the middle of the goal.
Shamrock Rovers had a couple of chances themselves but they were either comfortable saves by the goalkeeper or easily snuffed out by the Amberswood defence until a cross came in from the left hand side and found a Shamrock Rovers striker on the edge of the six yard box, who headed the ball towards the far post, only for goalkeeper Danny Hilton to pull of an excellent save and turn it round the post for a corner. It was Shamrock Rovers who took the lead for a second time, as they were given a soft penalty as a Shamrock Rovers striker picked up the ball on the left hand side and made a driving run into the box, but was confronted by Andy Leatherbarrow who stuck out his leg as the striker went past and as the ball was going out of play, the striker went to ground and the referee blew his whistle for the penalty. Which was duly converted.
Amberswood felt they were on top in this game, even though they were a goal behind and early on in the second half found themselves level again, when Dean Tomlinson chased a long ball and went clean through, before being brought down in the penalty area and Darren Ainscough stepped up to take the penalty. he fired the ball to the keepers left who got a hand to it, but was adjudged to have moved before the ball was kicked and Darren Ainscough this time fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
Amberswood striker Dean Tomlinson raced clear again, but as he approched the goal, his shot was feeble and it was an easy save for the goalkeeper.
Shamrock again took the lead for a third time and down the left hand side again as the winger ghosted past a couple of defenders before pulling the ball back for the striker to pass the ball into the goal from close range past a helpless goalkeeper.
As Amberswood piled more pressure on, striker Dean Tomlinson went clear again after Darren Ainscough carried the ball fifty yards out of defence on the left hand side before passing the ball in front of Dean Tomlinson who drew the keeper out and fired a shot across the goalkeeper but wide of the far post.
Dean Tomlinson finally did get a goal in this game, after Antony Whitton received the ball just inside the box and fired a shot at goal that should have been bread and butter for the keeper, but it managed to squirm out of his hands and Dean Tomlinson quickly followed it up to slide the ball over the line.
Final Score: Amberswood 3 Shamrock Rovers 3 A game Amberswood should have won with the clear chances. Man Of The Match: Dean Tomlinson who caused chaos among Shamrocks defence.
