Venture Athletic Away

Amberswood started off this game determined to win and looked like a team full of confidence as they were attacking Venture Athletic minute by minute. In the first twenty minutes, Venture were struggling to cope with Amberswood and more evidently, new signing Masood Rostani who looked to be running the show from central midfield as every time he got the ball he would waltz past two or three players before either being brought down or Amberswood got a shot on goal. Venture managed to get out of their own half once in that period until Masood Rostani went on another mazy run past Venture players and was cynically brought down and the referee waved play on, Masood Rostani reacted to the challenge off the ball by kicking out at his opponent who then pushed Masood Rostani in the chest and the referee sent Masood Rostani off.

Even with Amberswood being down to ten men, they still looked the better side and were still attacking, but it looked a lot more of an even game and in a Venture attack Steven Bannister was the subject of a controvercial decision which resulted in a penalty. As the Venture player struck the penalty, Amberswood goalkeeper Danny Hilton dived low down to his right hand side and made a magnificent penalty save which was heading for the bottom corner.

With the scoreline still scoreless at half time, Amberswood had to consider if they were going push for the winning goal or settle for a nil nil draw. Amberswood decided to go for the win by playing a 4-3-2 formation, with the highly impressive and energetic midfielder Rick Surples causing Venture most Problems and the non stop running striker Antony Whitton.

Another terrible tackle resulted with Amberswood player Steven Bannister having a players footprint inscribed on his back as a Venture player stamped on him, but again the incident went unpunished as the referee didn't see it.

Then the killer blow came as Venture mounted an attack down the right hand side and the right winger crossed the ball, which went out of play and came back into play and Venture scored. To put the icing on the cake, the referee gave a second goal for Venture, when the player was five yards offside and two yards out from goal.

With about ten minutes to go Amberswood scored through top scorer Antony Whitton after new signing Sammer Ahmed sent Antony Whitton through on goal and Antony Whitton slotted cooly past the Venture goalkeeper. Amberswood were close to equalising when a rocket from twenty five yards hit the underside of the bar and went down, the decision went against Amberswood.

Final Score: Venture Athletic 2 Amberswood 1 A one sided game which should have been won by Amberswood.

Man Of The Match: Rick Surples who always caused problems for Venture down the right wing and with his skill, energy and determination also helped his fullback, when Amberswood went down ten men, he helped his centre midfield as well as his full back.
