The game kicked off and Amberswood were playing with the wind behind them, but failed to capitalise on this, although they did have opportunities with Antony Whitton leading the line well.
Chris Gregson was very busy out on the left wing and it was Chris who had the first opportunity after Dean Tomlinson chased a long ball down and forced the goalkeeper to make a terrible clearance and from twenty five yards out and with the keeper out of his goal, Chris Gregson decided to play the ball in field to Rick Surples who controlled the ball and played it square on the edge of the box to Antony Whitton who ghosted past a couple of defenders and fired his shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Amberswood seemed in a comfortable position, creating more opportunities and looking soundly at the back with John Warbuton and Darren Ainscough at the back. Chris Hions was marshalling the midfield, but just before the half time whistle, Amberswood were exposed form a set piece as a corner kick was floated in to the far post and a Venture attacker was first to it, putting it in from three yards out.
In the second half Amberswood were against the wind and didn't seem to have it as much their own way, but it was Amberswood who went aheadand this was from a penalty after an Amberswood striker rifled a shot from outside the box and a Venture defender, handled the ball inside the box. Darren Ainscough stepped up and placed the ball into the corner of the net.
Amberswood made a substitution replacing Dean Tomlinson with debutant Nathan Smith and Amberswood started to cause the Venture defence numerous problems and really should have gone further ahead after a corner kick was taken by Rick Surples and landed at the feet of Nathan Smith who took one touch to control it and shifted the ball to the right, away from the defender and opening up the space for his shot, but lacked composure and fired the ball over the bar.
With Amberswood seemmingly on top and failing to kill the game off, it was inevitable that the next goal was going to come from Venture as the left winger carried the ball into the Amberswood penalty box and cut inside, before sliding the ball past goalkeeper Lee Fernyough.
With the game locked at two two, we all wondered if there was time for a winner, and there was, and it was going to take something out of the ordinary, and thats what it was as a Venture striker took a shot from twenty five yards out and the wind caught hold of the ball and before the Amberswood keeper could react, the wind had carried the ball into the net.
Final Score: Amberswood 2 Venture Athletic 3 Venture Athletic used the weather conditions to their advantage, which Amberswood failed to do in the first half.
Man Of The Match: Chris Hions who was like a midfield general and really commanded his midfield.
